When Rickie Fowler teed it up at the Sentry Tournament of Champions a couple of weeks ago, most people were talking about his untucked Aloha shirt. While the loud print garnered the majority of attention, Fowler also quietly debuted Puma Golf’s latest footwear technology. Thursday through Saturday he sported a Hawaiian-inspired version of the new IGNITE PWRADAPT shoe before lacing up an ultra-clean white colorway for the final round.
The idea behind the IGNITE PWRADAPT family of footwear is to give golfers the ability to adapt to changing surfaces throughout the course of a round. The key to this technology is Puma Golf’s proprietary PWRADAPT sole, which includes revolutionary 3-dimensional traction pods on the outsole coupled with the responsive cushioning of the brand’s IGNITE foam in the midsole. These new traction pods are designed to seamlessly adapt to a golfer’s movements from tee-to-green while providing top-shelf traction across a variety of surfaces, even at TOUR-level swing speeds.
While Puma is breaking new ground with the traction pods, the IGNITE midsole is nothing new to its line of footwear. The brand has used it in several models dating back to 2015. However, the IGNITE PWRADAPT does mark the first time Puma has created a cleated shoe with the responsive foam across the entire length of the midsole.
“Without question, our new IGNITE PWRADAPT collection is the most technologically-advanced golf shoe we’ve ever made,” said Grant Knudson, Global Head of Footwear & Accessories, PUMA Golf. “Not only will golfers experience unrivaled traction and comfort thanks to our PWRADAPT pods, but the fit, feel and the overall design of the shoes are truly game-changing.”
The IGNITE PWRADAPT Collection is comprised of three stylish options—the IGNITE PWRADAPT, IGNITE PWRADAPT DISC and IGNITE PWRADAPT Leather. Each model includes premium Aniline Leather accents for a touch of style and a sockliner that highlights the Cobra Puma Golf headquarters on a map of Carlsbad. Also, Puma’s leaping cat logo has replaced the familiar swoopy branding element on the lateral side of the shoe.
“Our goal each season is to provide the perfect blend of style and performance – and with our new PWRADAPT cleated footwear we’ve done just that,” said Knudson.
The IGNITE PWRADAPT features a lightweight, breathable, and waterproof mesh upper. An ultra-thin TPU PWRFRAME is strategically placed in high-stress areas of the upper to provide the mesh with an increased level of support and stability. Adding to the comfort of the shoe is a mesh sock that replaces a traditional tongue. This bootie hugs the foot to provide enhanced fit, comfort, and support.
Puma introduced its DISC technology to its golf line last year and has once again included it as an alternative to a traditional lacing system in the IGNITE PWRADAPT Collection. The IGNITE PWRADAPT DISC possesses all the features and technology of the IGNITE PWRADAPT with the addition of Puma’s micro-adjusting tightening system. A few clicks of the dial located on the tongue of the shoe quickly provides a custom fit and a locked-in feeling. Look for the IGNITE PWRADAPT and IGNITE PWRADAPT DISC in three colorways—Quiet Shade (Gray), Black/White, and Peacoat/White.
Rounding out the collection is the IGNITE PWRADAPT Leather, a model that combines a premium full-grain leather upper with the mesh sock. It is perfect for the player looking for a sophisticated shoe with an athletic silhouette. This leather model will be available in classic White or Black colorways.
The entire IGNITE PWRADAPT Collection will hit store shelves on February 1st.
